Giving notice of arbitration

Notice of arbitration must be given to the counter party in writing with a description of the dispute. Arbitration shall be deemed to have commenced as soon as the UNUM foundation has received a copy of the notice of arbitration to the respondent.

UNUM’s postal address and email address can be found on the contact details page.

In short, you need to take two steps to commence arbitration proceedings. Arbitration proceedings will only be deemed to have been commenced according to the UNUM arbitration rules once both steps are completed:

  1. notice of arbitration to the respondent, and
  2. copy of the notice of arbitration to UNUM’s secretariat.

Article I of the rules sets out all the provisions for giving notice of arbitration and appointing arbitrators.
