RMSC Expert Overview alternative dispute resolution

As a trade association the Rotterdam Maritime Services Community (RMSC) is invested in promoting the added value of maritime business services to the broad maritime cluster. Next to organising various knowledge sharing and networking events they also invite members to share information about specific focus areas. In order to provide insights into the benefits of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) when conducting maritime business, UNUM was asked to write an expert overview.

The overview provides a quick outline about the different means of ADR and why they are suitable for resolving disputes in the international maritime industry. The global maritime industry, often encounters disputes related to for example contracts, cargo, shipping delays, and insurance claims.

Given the complex, multinational nature of this sector, resolving conflicts through traditional court litigation can be expensive, time-consuming, and challenging, especially when different legal jurisdictions are involved.
